Interiors - Suspended CeilingsA suspended ceiling is both attractive and functional. Easy to install, it offers real benefits over a permanent ceiling, allowing easy access for fixing pipes or adding wiring, and providing good sound barriers. A metal grid is hung from the original ceiling joists. Tiles are slotted into the grid to create the new ceiling. Types of CeilingWe typically supply one of three types of suspended ceilings, those where the tiles are made from; mineral fibre, mineral wool or metal. Mineral FibreAvailable in a range of different textures, mineral fibre ceilings generally provide good acoustic performance. A degree of fire resistance can be achieved. Usually this type of partition is laid into an exposed modular suspension system but it can also be adapted for concealed construction. Normally provided with a white finish however, special colours can be ordered. Modern tiles now provide excellent humidity resistance. Mineral WoolMineral Wool suspended ceilings are a popular choice due to excellent performance characteristics in use and in the event of fire. Recently, green issues have become a significant factor in selection. Mineral Wool is stable over a wide range of temperatures and retains its thermal performance throughout the lifetime of a building. Over a 50 year life mineral wool tiles will save more than a 1,000 times the quantity of energy used to make them. Mineral wool yields greater environmental returns than most other insulants. MetalMetal suspended ceilings are manufactured from steel or aluminium. A polyester powder coating protects the structure against corrosion, providing a washable, humidity resistant finish. The typical life span of a metal system is 25 years, and at a price comparable to mid range mineral tiles, they offer a very low life time cost. A wide range of perforation patterns combined with acoustic infills, means good sound absorption. Infills can be varied without changing the overall appearance of the ceiling to provide different acoustic performance in different areas. The ceilings appearance can be varied using the perforation pattern, finish, size and shape. Metal ceilings offer easy access for service maintenance with the option of hinged mechanisms making access even simpler. Panels can be supplied with factory formed apertures to allow easy on site installation of lights, smoke detectors and air grills. Want to know more? Call us on 01949 836000 or email us |
